The Inter-house debate activity 'Jirah' for Classes VI-VIII, organized on October 27, 2023, was a riveting event that explored the topic of whether material provided on the media should be censored or not. The event was graced by the presence of Principal, Dr. Richa Prakash and Headmistress, Dr. Navita Chandak. There was an enthusiastic participation from students representing all six houses - Raavi, Satluj, Ganga, Yamuna, Jhelum and Chenab showcasing their analytical skills and the ability to present well-reasoned arguments. All the participants delved into the complexities of the topic, discussing the pros and cons of censorship in the media. They highlighted the need for responsible journalism, the protection of public interest, and the preservation of freedom of expression.
The audience was captivated by the thought-provoking arguments and the level of maturity displayed by the debaters.
After a marvellous display of talent by all participants, judges, Ms. Vibhuti Chauhan and Dr. Ghanshyam Hardenia, evaluated Naisha Shekhawat to be given the ‘Letter of Honour’ award followed by Manveer Singh and Mokshit Narayan Bontha receiving the ‘High Commendation’ award. The best performers were felicitated amidst a roar of applaud. The Principal, Dr. Richa Prakash shared her views about the event stating that all participants had showcased immense talent and dedication, making the activity, a truly enriching experience for everyone involved.
Overall, the Inter-house debate activity 'Jirah' successfully fostered critical thinking, effective communication, and confident presentation among the students. It provided a platform for them to engage in meaningful discussions and develop their oratory skills.
The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Riddhima Chauhan who conveyed a gratitude to the organizers, Mr. Yogesh Sharma and Dr. Anita Choudhary, along with each and every person involved in the smooth and successful execution of the event. The activity was drawn to a close with the national anthem.
