The ATAL Tinkering Lab

With a vision to ‘Cultivate one Million children in India as Neoteric Innovators’, Atal Innovation Mission, Niti Ayog has established Atal Tinkering Laboratories (ATLs) in schools across the country. Delhi Public School, Jaipur takes pride to have its own Atal Tinkering Lab inaugurated on 7 th September, 2018. To fulfill the objective of this scheme that is to foster curiosity, creativity and imagination in young minds; and inculcate skills such as design mindset, computational thinking, adaptive learning, physical computing etc. the school has a full time dedicated ATL In charge.

At ATL, young minds are given shape to their ideas through hands on do-it-yourself mode; and learn innovation skills. Students get a chance to work with tools and equipment to understand the concepts of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). ATL contains educational and learning ‘do it yourself’ kits and equipment on – science, electronics, robotics, open source microcontroller boards, sensors and 3D printers and computers.

In order to foster growth mindset, students participate in various activities and competitions ranging from regional and National level competitions, exhibitions, workshops on problem solving, design thinking etc. at periodic intervals. The Atal Innovation Mission’s flagship innovation challenge, ATL Marathon is organized every year where schools identify community problems of their choice and develop innovative solutions in the form of working prototypes. Just like every year, entries have been submitted towards ATL Marathon 2022-23 by students of Delhi Public School, Jaipur. Additionally, students have registered for ‘ATL Tinkerpreneur 2023’- a flagship summer boot camp under AIM’s Atal Tinkering Labs program, where they are learning digital and entrepreneurial skills. To celebrate Technology Day, students are given the opportunity to attend the live online session for a hands on practical activity to create a prototype using various tools and equipment. Students visited CSIR- CEERI, a globally renowned coveted destination for scientific knowledge, research excellence and innovative technology in electronics as well as allied sciences & engineering established by Government of India to have a better insight about the innovations and latest technologies. Additionally, students participate in the weekly session held at National level under the guidance of Regional Mentor of Change and showcase their skills.

Mentoring sessions are conducted in school for students on a regular basis with the Mentor of Change appointed through Niti Ayog. The Mentor of Change is responsible to guide the students about the leadership, entrepreneurial and technical skills and realizing the purpose of establishing ATL in true sense.
